The beer biz never sleeps at American Craft Beer. And here’s some more of what’s been happening in the beer world, while you’ve been drinking yourself senseless all weekend.
International Women’s Day Gets Its Own Beer At Revolution (Chicago, IL) – March 8th is International Women’s Day…And the women at Revolution Brewing have brewed up something special to commemorate the occasion according to the Chicago Tribune.
The 68 women working at the brewery put their heads and hands together to craft the Spirit of Revolt, an India Pale Ale that takes its name from a Margaret Sanger quote.
Revolution’s Spirit Of Revolt is a spirited Imperial IPA with big citrus, pineapple and melon notes which features specialty malts from the woman-lead Weyermann Malting as well.
While Spirit of Revolt was tapped on February 21st it will remain on draft at both Revolution’s Brewpub and Tap Room locations through the March 8th holiday. And all of the beer’s proceeds at both locations will be donated to Connections for Abused Women and their Children.
Words To Drink By (Corning, NY) – “I believe that deep down in woman’s nature lies slumbering the spirit of revolt.” Margaret Sanger, writer, sex educator and activist
Blue Point Makes Olympian Pitch (Patchogue, NY) – Long Island-based Blue Point Brewing has asked Olympic freestyle skier Elizabeth Swaney to be the captain of the newly formed Blue Point Athletics Team. Blue Point’s Pitch (which took place publicly via twitter) was understandably short on financial particulars but did offer one standout perk, free beer for life, so there’s that.
New Guinness US Brewery Helmed By Heavies (Baltimore County, MD) – Guinness’ new Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House in Maryland is being overseen by some big-name craft-pedigreed brewers. Peter Weins who earned his stripes at Stone Brewing in Escondido, has assembled a crack team of players including Hollie Stephenson (most recently brewmaster Highland Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina) and Sean Brennan.
