Guinness Plans New Brewery And Visitor Center In The US (Relay, MD) – Yesterday in a press release, Diageo, home to Guinness announced plans to return to brewing in the states after a 63-year absence, and that they’d be building a $50 million brewery and distribution center in Baltimore County.

Modeled After Guinness’s Open Gate Brewery in Dublin and looking to capitalize on the soaring popularity of beer tourism here in America, the new $50 million facility will contain a mid-sized production brewery along with a tasting room, retail store and visitor center.

, Rumor Mill – New Beer Scholar At The Smithsonian, Guinness To Maryland And More!New Beer Scholar At The Smithsonian (Washington, DC) – Last year the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History announced a new initiative to explore brewing history and Industry in America that is being funded by the Brewers Association. And on Monday they announced that after an exhaustive search, they’d found the right person to oversee the three-year program.

Theresa McCulla is the social and cultural food historian (that’s a thing?) and she will work out of the museum in Washington, conducting research and collecting oral histories, with special emphasis on homebrewing and the craft brewing industry.

American Craft Beer Overlooked By The Smithsonian (Washington, DC) – “We’d like to think that our extensive history of all-night drinking would have warranted an interview from the Smithsonian” remarked Tom Bobak editor at American Craft Beer, “Brewbound probably got a return call.”
