Beer Buzz: Founding Fathers Beer In Philly, Schlafly Beer Names First Female CEO

|July 3rd, 2019|

The Fourth of July is almost ON…but clearly the craft beer biz isn’t slowing down any time soon. No worries, the Beer Buzz is always on the case, keeping you up on all the beer news and lifestyle that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you don’t want to miss that!

Yards Brewing Celebrates The 4th With The Founding Fathers (Philadelphia, PA) –  Yards Brewing is inviting those in Philly for the 4th to stop into the City Tavern to sample a series of beers crafted to recreate ales that the Founding Fathers might have enjoyed “back in the day.”

Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin each had their own beer recipes. Fortunately for historians and beer lovers alike, the Founding Fathers wrote these recipes down. Yards Brewing has made these historical recreations a cornerstone of its beer offerings as part of its Ales of the Revolution Series. And what better time to enjoy them than on the 4th?

Jefferson’s Golden Ale is an 8% ABV Strong Ale that recreates his recipe using honey, rye and wheat, just like the original beer brewed at Monticello.

Washington’s Porter is a dark, smooth and complex 7% ABV Porter that was detailed in a letter from the General to his officers during the war.

Poor Richard’s Spruce Ale is a 5% ABV deep Amber Ale brewed with barley, molasses and essence of spruce that was inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s original recipe.

Words To Drink By (Monticello, VA) – “Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous seas of liberty.” Thomas Jefferson

Fran Caradonna Named Brewery CEO (St Louis, MO) – After four months as CFO and CAO, craft beer veteran Fran Caradonna will also serve as the first female CEO for The Saint Louis Brewery, the maker of Schlafly Beer.

Caradonna has over 25 years of experience in the craft beer industry, most recently serving as the general manager for O’Fallon Brewery. In her tenure, Caradonna contributed to the St. Louis area’s craft beer expansion. She was co-founder and vice president of The Signature Beer Company, one of Schlafly’s first wholesalers, as well as co-founder and chief executive officer of O’Fallon Brewery.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (San Diego, CA) – last night we hit up something tasty from Green Flash Brewing that recently showed up at the ACB compound. Bright, citrusy and floral, Soul Style IPA is a 6.5% ABV India Pale Ale that did not disappoint.
