Craft Beer Seeing Record Highs In Colorado (Denver) – If there’s a craft beer bubble brewing across the nation, Colorado’s could be a first indicator. After all there are now more than 350 craft breweries in the state, with more scheduled to soon. When you understand that in 2012, there were only 120 craft breweries across the state you get how the industry has accelerated in Colorado
But with that kind of growth comes the dangers of too many breweries, And Colorado is also seeing more brewery closures. According to Denver 7 “rising rent and labor costs along with more competition entering the market makes it hard for craft breweries to keep up and stay profitable.” And things are getting even more competitive in craft beer-rich major cities like Denver.
The exact number of breweries and brewpubs In Denver Metro is difficult for even trade organizations like the Colorado Brewers Guild to nail down, what with new breweries coming online monthly (and the occasional closure). But the CBG is currently putting that number at more than 65, noting that both New Belgium and Odell Brewing plan to open new branded venues in Denver in 2018.

BrewDog And Scofflaw Collaborate (Aberdeen, Scotland/Atlanta, GA) – We should have realized when Atlanta’s uber-hot Scofflaw Brewing announced last December that they’ve formed a partnership with BrewDog USA and would be be sharing some of the Ohio-based brewery’s excess brewery and canning resources that there might be an eventual collaboration down the line. We just wouldn’t have predicted that it would take place in Scotland.
Scofflaw’s Co-Founders Matt Shirah and Travis Herman Journeyed to Scotland, last month to collaborate with BrewDog on a huge UK release that memorializes both of their homes (Atlanta and Aberdeen, Scotland) and their brewing friendship.
BrewDog Double A (get it?) is a 9.5% ABV Double IPA that’s yet the next step in this growing transatlantic partnership.
