Beer Buzz – Big Winners At New York State Craft Beer Competition

The New York State Brewers Association just announced the winners if the 2018 New York State Craft Beer Competition and given the state’s uber-exciting craft beer scene we thought you’d want to know who this year’s big winners are!

This year’s competition featured 642 entries from more than 120 breweries, including 264 entries that qualified as a NYS labeled beer or farm beer, meaning they use at least 20 percent New York State-grown hops and other New York State-grown ingredients in their beers.

Overall Competition Highlights

• Governor’s Excelsior Cup was awarded to Threes Brewing (Brooklyn) for the second consecutive year, this time for their Passing Time Grisette

Most Medals Won

• (4) medals were won by Peekskill Brewing, Peekskill NY (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) and Big Ditch Brewing, Buffalo NY (4 bonze)
• (3) medals were won by Lucky Hare Brewing, Hector NY (1 gold, 2 silver), Bottomless Brewing, Geneva NY (2 gold, 1 silver), Saranac Brewery, Utica NY (3 golds) Great Flats Brewing, Schenectady NY (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) and Glenmere Brewing, Florida NY (2 gold, 1 silver)
• Two (2) medals were won by 8 breweries

This year the most-entered categories were New England Style India Pale Ale (IPA) and American Light Lager which each saw 58 entries. The top five entered categories were:
