Surly Brewing Introduces Crystal Surly™ On April 1st (Minneapolis, MN) – The Growler celebrated the Easter holiday with a breaking news article on Surly’s new Zima-like crystal clear lager, a new beer that they’ve branded Crystal Surly™.
Described as a return to Surly’s radical roots, and the result of something the brewery calls ‘Solid Phase Extraction’ a high speed high-speed centrifugation process that removes all the beer’s color without flavor loss, it turns out that Crystal Surly™ was total bullshit – a beautifully orchestrated April Fool’s Day prank that’s as brilliant as it was hilarious.
Nice work guys …you had us at hello! And speaking of April Fool’s Day, there’s also THIS.
Words To Drink By (Minneapolis, MN) – ““The trend right now in craft beer it toward lighter beers…But with Crystal Surly™ I think we have pushed that concept several steps further.” Surly founder Omar Ansari
Good News & Bad News From Nationals Park (Washington, DC) – The good news from DC’s National’s Ball Park is that in addition to expanding their craft beer selection, they are introducing 24- and 25-ounce large-format beer options for the first time this season. The bad news is they are charging ‘ridiculous money’ for them.
Nationals Ball Park’s District Draft stands will offer an expanded rotating selection of craft beers from breweries in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. And yes, you can get a 24-ounce draft this year but it’s going to cost you a mind-boggling $16 bucks. Two beers, that’s $32, the price of a case of craft in most neighborhoods!
‘Big Beer’ is also going big in Nationals Park this season. And while a 25-ounce can of Bud or Bud Light, will cost you a paltry $12…twenty-five-ounce cans of “premium” beers will cost $15. Guess we’ll have to play ball,
