Beer Alert – New IPA’s, Märzen Lagers And Seasonal Exotics
Things stay fairly seasonal (with one prominent exception) and in our latest collection of summertime offerings…And we’ve five intriguing craft beer directions that you may want to chase down immediately.
Taking a Shine To It (Shiner, TX) – Shiner just released the newest from their ambitious Brewer’s Pride Series. Aged and infused with wild Texas dewberries that impart floral and fruity tones, Shiner Dewberry Tart Ale is a 5.9% ABV Berliner Weisse-style Ale, with a distinctly Texas flavor and a refreshingly funky finish.
Trap This! (Portland, OR) – Breakside Brewery has a new IPA Series release that they describe as “Christmas in the tropics.” A study in balance that combines the iconic complexity of the Mosaic hop with a generous helping of grapefruit-aroma-laden Simcoe and Chinook, Breakside Thirst Trap is a 6.4% ABV India Pale Ale with delicate aromatics reminiscent of guava, Sauvignon Blanc grapes, pineapple and mango and HUGE ruby red grapefruit, citrus zest and pine notes.
Combatting Boring Beer (Newport, OR) – Rogue Ales has a new summer IPA that’s a collision of styles and flavors, and then some! Brewed to “combat boring beer” Rogue Combat Wombat is a fierce and whimsical 7.2% ABV combination of a Northeast-style hazy IPA and a sour ale infused with blood orange and grapefruit.
Most Hops Ever! (Denver, CO) – That’s the claim that Crooked Stave is making about its third limited Rotator Series release for 2018. Bold, resinous and inspired by the fresh hop fields the brewery visits every harvest season, Crooked Stave Trellis Buster is a ridiculously smooth and drinkable 8% ABV Double IPA that’s been recklessly dry-hopped with massive amounts Azacca, Citra, Motueka, and Simcoe.
Treasure Best (Baltimore, MD) – Although we tend to grouse about seasonal creep and pumpkin ales at retail in August, we’ll cut Heavy Seas Beer some slack, because their Märzen is just that good. Heavy Seas Octoberfest Lager puts a distinctly American spin on the classic German style and makes it all look so easy.
