Hey no one’s perfect…That said, there are some ideas out there that are so monumentally bad as to boggle the mind. Like last week, when someone at Speight’s, a New Zealand-based heritage brewery, posted a video of a man drinking beer though through a deer’s severed head on their Facebook page.
You know, sometimes the beer biz can’t get out of its own way…
News spread like wildfire across the international drinks biz last Friday, when the New Zealand Herald reported that “Speight’s has come under fire after shocking footage emerged of a man drinking beer from the head of a decapitated deer.”
Yah think?
You can’t fire enough people for posting such a disgusting video on your brewery’s Facebook page.
And endorsing that atrocious video (again on the company’s social media site) with the comment “good on ya mate”,” just added fuel to what was fast became and international firestorm of epic proportions.
The company has since removed the offensive video from its social media page (again, yah think?).
But we can’t help but find it interesting, that it’s still available for the world’s voyeurs to view 24/7 on the newspaper’s website, (hey, they are professionals… they’re just reporting the news right?).
Understandably forced to renounce the unfortunate incident, Speight’s issued a statement to New Zealand TV station 1 News.
‘At Speight’s, we believe that hunters should treat animals ethically and with respect,’ the statement read. ‘The post by one of our Speight’s consumers was extremely ill-judged, and our initial response was unwise and regrettable and we apologize unreservedly for the comment and for any offence it has caused.’
They should have added “please continue to buy our beer,” because we won’t be.
