The hits just keep on coming for Anheuser-Busch in the wake of the Bud Light Trans controversy that refuses to go away.

Here’s the deal…

These are polarizing times and Bud Light is continuing to face a backlash following its partnership with Dylan Mulvaney, a transgender influencer whose image was put on a Bud Light beer can to celebrate “365 Days of Girlhood.”

Bud Light’s decision to showcase the Trans Tik Tok activist on a special can spurred a Boycott Bud Light! online campaign, a video of Kid Rock shooting up a bunch of bud light beer cans that went viral, and a huge surge in online interest in the Samuel Adams Beer.

Amid the backlash, AB’s market capitalization has dropped nearly $6billion in the past 10 days, a decline of nearly 5%, as the company remained relatively silent save for a short statement confirming the partnership.

On April 14th, almost two weeks after Dylan Mulvaney’s Instagram announcement, Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth released a formal statement (without specifically addressing its partnership with the trans activist) that failed to put the matter to rest.

Many felt that company’s response has been less-than-supportive towards the LGBTQ community.

On May 18th USA Today reported that the Human Rights Campaign, which rates companies based on their policies towards the LGBTQ community through a Corporate Equality Index (CEI), told Anheuser-Busch that they will be losing their 100 percent perfect score, according to a leaked letter that the news outlet obtained.

“Our decision to suspend Anheuser-Busch’s Corporate Equality Index score comes after several attempts to contact their executive team to discuss recent issues of inclusion and equity,” HRC SVP of programs, research and training Jay Brown said in a statement to Brewbound. “We don’t make this decision lightly.”

““Our goal is to work with companies, helping them understand how critical it is to support the LGBTQ+ community — especially at a time when we’re facing unprecedented legislative attacks on our very existence — and then give them concrete examples of how to do that,” Brown said. “Anheuser-Busch’s shameful response after receiving bad-faith criticism is not only the wrong thing to do, it’s anti-business.”
