AMERICAN CRAFT BEER’S 2019 MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND PICKS

Hey it’s a long holiday weekend…and you’re all about the fun. No worries. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals, movies and music to cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time.  Plus we’ve a special Memorial Day beer pick for you too, because we know you’ll be drinking!

North To Alaska (Haines, Alaska) – For many Memorial Day marks the “un-official” start of summer and this being a long holiday weekend, you’ve time to head north to Alaska for The Great Alaska Craft Beer and Home Brew Festival which takes place in a spectacular mountainside setting this weekend (May 25^th). Head to the Alaskan State Fairgrounds for non-stop live music, Alaskan artisan eats and more locally-brewed craft beer than any reasonable individual can possibly consume. And yes, tickets are long gone, so you may have to hit up the scalpers. But this one’s worth it…trust us!

On the Big Screen – This holiday weekend’s most interesting new movie isn’t Aladdin (which might be fun if you’re seven), but a documentary that celebrates the explosion of popular music that came out of LA’s Laurel Canyon in the mid-60s. Echo in the Canyon contains candid conversations and performances with artist like Brian Wilson, Ringo Starr, Michelle Phillips, Eric Clapton, Stephen Stills, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Roger McGuinn and Jackson Browne… as well as with contemporary musicians they influenced such as Tom Petty (in his very last film interview).

Desert Blues & Brews (Albuquerque, NM) – We showcase music as much as we can as part of our Weekend Picks and it’s always great when serious music takes place at at an informed beer outing. This weekend (May 26) the 2019 Albuquerque Blues and Brews returns to the Sandia Resort and Casino for a fun afternoon of craft beer and non-stop music. This year’s gathering will feature over 50 of the region’s most exciting craft breweries, all kinds of Southwestern desert food, and great music. So no excuses…

OUR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND BEER PICKS

Since Memorial marks the beginning of summer for us, we’re going with Pilsners this weekend. And there are two that we absolutely love! Victory Prima Pils and Firestone Walker Pivo Hoppy Pils are both great examples of the American craft beer approach to this proud German tradition.
