Ska Brewing – A Future So Bright, They Gotta Wear Shades
“I’m doing all right, getting good grades
The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades”
– Timbuk 3
While many breweries are now battening down their hatches to better negotiate an increasingly competitive and contentious craft beer climate… Ska Brewing is looking forward and confidently upping their game in 2017.
In an effort to up their capacity big time, Durango Colorado-based Ska Brewing has added five new fermenters, a second kettle to the brew house, and a de-aerated water system to give them a 20% bump in brewing capacity.
These new additions will also enable the brewery to expand upon their buzzy Mod Project Brewery, featuring small batch creations.
Located in the heart of Ska Brewing’s warehouse and built to allow Ska’s brewers greater experimentation with new brewing techniques, the Mod Project Brewery is a smaller, innovative brewery that’s shaking things up big time In Durango.
The Mod Project Brewery is a relatively new addition to Ska’s compound, it’s barely a year old, and has already generated more than 25 experimental beers, many of them award-winners.
Up until now all Mod Project’s releases were only available at the brewery. But this increase in capacity will allow them the long-overdue ability to distribute beers like their Oak-aged Strong Plum Ale and Palisade Peach Gose more widely.
Mod’s Pink Vapor Stew sour is now going to be available in 12oz cans and Mexican Logger, a slightly sour play on their hugely popular 5.2% ABV American pale lager, is planned to make its way to cans this summer.
And with an ever-growing number of craft beer fans increasingly making the pilgrimage to Ska’s World Headquarters, they’ve announced a huge upgrade for the spring. They’ll be unveiling a completely redesigned destination beer garden, complete with a contemporary stone patio setting, and most importantly, an outdoor bar.
Yes, the craft beer may be slowing but clearly Ska Brewing is not…and to paraphrase the words of the immortal Timbuk 3…
Their future’s so bright, they gotta wear shades…
