THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER WEEKEND PICKS
THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER WEEKEND PICKS
Hey it’s already the second weekend in February…and you’re ready for some fun. Well good, because we’ve some ideas for you. From the nation’s coolest beer events to movies, music and cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve another weekend beer suggestion for you as well, because we know you’ll be drinking
Opening Gala To Northern California’s Premier Beer Week (San Francisco, CA) – SF Beer Week is one of the best beer week celebrations in the country. And they’re kicking thing off this Friday, February 10th with an Opening Gala down by the bay at Pier 48. Sponsored by the San Francisco Brewers Guild this exciting kick-off to nine days of non-stop drinking will showcase 120 of the region’s most brilliant brewers, so you don’t want to miss it. Expect hop bombs galore, both cloudy and clear, enormous barrel-aged brews, and endless beer styles that range from traditional and uber-experimental. We’re gonna be there and we hope that many of you can join us!
On The Big Screen – This weekend’s new movie openings run the gamut from soft-core S&M porn (Fifty Shades Darker), to B-movie sequels (John Wick: Chapter 2) and LEGO recreations of superhero epics (The LEGO Batman Movie)… So truthfully you’ll probably be better off sticking with drinking.
TV Time – We don’t normally call you attention to shows on the traditional commercial networks (like CBS or ABC) because they’ve just sucked forever, especially when compared with the kind of quality that defines outlets like HBO and now Netflix. But NBC recently debuted a bold and audacious reimagining of The Wizard of OZ that hints at a course correction. Weird, violent and visually spectacular, Emerald City offers a vision of L. Frank Baum’s fables that’s dark, dystopian and oddly compelling. Directed by Tarsem Singh who’s overseen visually stunning movies like The Fall and done huge videos for bands like R.E.M, the jury’s still out on Emerald City, but it’s already shown itself to be better than 99% of the crap on mainstream TV, so we’re in for now.
Drink Strong This Weekend (Phoenix, AZ) – The Arizona Craft Brewers Guild is returning their 17th annual Arizona Strong Beer Festival to Steele Indian School Park this Saturday February the 11th so get ready for an afternoon of SERIOUS drinking. This year’s throwdown will feature more than 400 beers from 130 breweries, and with the event’s acknowledged emphasis on high-octane brews, you can expect that things will get wild! THE ACB WEEKEND BEER PICK
This weekend we’ll be hitting up something interesting from Fordham Brewing that straddles a couple of our favorite styles and just got a new look. Fordham Crash Zone IPL is a big 7.5% India Pale Lager that combines the fragrant hoppiness of the American IPA with the drinkability and silken mouthfeel of the best lagers.
