Winter has arrived with a vengeance …And we’ve some seasonal IPAs you need to try that are brewed with colder temperatures in mind.

A High Voltage Winter (Portland, OR) – Gigantic Brewing only makes one core beer, their IPA, everything else including High Voltage Winter IPA is a one-off. In crafting High Voltage Gigantic took their flagship India Pale Ale and added just enough crystal malt to sweeten an deepen things. Some may call this a hoppy Red Ale, but the brewery prefers to call it a Winter IPA because of its pronounced hoppiness and dank drinkability.

Upright Winter IPA (Portland, OR) – Brewed with a distinct menu of Cascade, Chinook and Centennial hops in such a way as to come up with a completely different bittering presence – and the-flying-dutchmanopen fermented using a blend of Upright Brewing’s house yeast strains, – Upright Winter Ale is a brilliant 7% ABV limited release that won’t soon be forgotten.

Nuts Freezing Frost Biting Tongue On Frozen Pole Winter IPA (Vantaa, Finland) – Okay we admit it, we’ve never had this winter ale, but given the fact that Flying Dutchman Nomad Brewing is a Finnish operation, we gotta think they know cold-weather seasonals. Hopped out of its mind on Cascade, Centennial, Mosaic and Citra, Nuts Freezing Frost Biting Tongue On Frozen Pole Winter IPA is a 6% ABV American India Pale that’s worthy of your attention for its name alone.

Winter Down With Faction (Alameda, CA) – Faction Brewing is a 20-barrel operation housed in an old airplane hangar and their winter India Pale Ale doesn’t hang around for long, Faction Winter IPA Is brewed using whole leaf Citra and Cascade but it’s the Simcoe dry-hopping that make this 7.4% India Pale Ale resonate.

schlafly-black-ipaBlack As A Winter Night (Saint Louis, MO) – Schlafly Beer is kicking off their new Hop Allocation Series with a brilliant new winter release. Deep, dark, aggressively hopped yet roasty, Schlafly Black IPA is a 7% small-batch winter pleasure, that’s only brewed at this time of year.
