The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – November 23, 2012

|November 23rd, 2012|

Hey it’s Friday and we hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving. Holiday weekends are the best but there’s got to be more to do than just eating and shopping, right? That’s where we come in. We’re all about it and we’ve been chasing down all kinds of things that you might want to do. Plus we’ve got a two seasonal weekend beer picks that you need to know about! So welcome to The Post-Thanksgiving Edition of Our Weekend Picks!

winter-beerfestThanksgiving traditionally marks the beginning of the winter holidays and the 2012 Philadelphia Winter Beerfest launches things this Saturday! It’s taking place at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer this year and there will be both afternoon and evening tasting sessions serving up more than 100 specially selected winter ales. Winter Beerfest is dedicated to serving up the best beers available including some of the newest breweries to hit the Pennsylvania area. Some of the newcomers this year are: Neshamity Creek, Twisted Pine, Joseph James, Clown Shoes, Du Claw, Kona Brewing, Susquehanna brewing and Evolution, so you don’t want to miss this Thanksgiving weekend event.     For more info check out: Winter Beerfest

There are lots of movies to choose from this weekend. Here’s what caught our attention. Life of Pi is directed by Ang Lee and he’s made some interesting and diverse movies like The Hulk, Taking Woodstock, and Brokeback Mountain, so this might be something. It’s about a young man who survives a disaster at sea and is hurtled into an epic journey. And, oh yeah, while cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor who happens to be Bengal tiger. Before you write this off as a Disney-lite family flick, know that it’s getting great reviews and is being seen as a definite Best Picture candidate. There’s also the new James Bond flick that open a couple of weeks ago and is doing some serious business. Skyfall is the third movie featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond and the last two killed and basically re-invented what was becoming a very tired franchise.

Celebrate Black Friday with a serious beer. If you’re holiday shopping in the Windy City today, Goose Island is having a special event that sounds like a perfect break from Black Friday mania. Chicago’s Goose Island Clybourn Pub is celebrating today with a special preview of the much anticipated Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout. Once it’s gone, it’s gone and they expect it will sell out fast. Aside from this special tapping the only time you’ll see Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout on draft will be at select beer festivals, so this is a big deal.

If you want to catch The Rolling Stones before they die then we can’t think of a better place to do it than this Sunday at the Q2 Arena in London. Unbeievably (or perhaps not) there are still tickets available – but of course you’ll have to get there. For more info on the tour check out: concerttour.org
