Hey it’s Friday and the weekend is almost here. And as far as we’re concerned, it can’t come quick enough. The weather’s getting warmer and you’re ready for some fun, and that’s where we come in! San Diego is a world-class craft beer Mecca and they know how to throw a beer bash. We attended last year’s CityBeat Festival of Beers and it was a blast, so we’re picking it again this year. 2013’s festival is taking place this Saturday, the 20^th, downtown in front of the Lafayette Hotel. There will be live music on the Pink stage (and with 91X involved, you know it’s going to rock) and loads of beer from some of the region’s finest craft brewers. VIP tickets, which allow for early admission and a special selection of beer, are still available. And like last year, proceeds will benefit the San Diego Music Foundation. They’ve been running trailers for this movie for awhile now and we’ve got to admit, we’ve been effectively hyped. Oblivion is a sci-fi thriller that’s been in development for over five years and it’s finally opening this weekend. It stars Tom Cruise (in his only release planned for this year), Morgan Freeman (who’s always solid), and “former Bond Girl” Andrea Riseborough. The plot revolves around a Veteran (Cruise) assigned to extract Earth’s remaining resources. As the story unfolds, he begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself. This all sounds vaguely like The Matrix to us but if it’s even half as good as the first movie in that series was, we’re there!

Hickory, North Carolina will be hopping this Saturday (4/20) when the 11^th Annual Hickory Hops kicks in gear. This afternoon event will be taking place downtown at Union Square and will feature 40 of the region’s most exciting craft brewers. As we wrote in last week’s Weekend Picks, music festivals don’t get much bigger than Coachella 2013, and the second leg of this legendary two-weekend festival (April 19^th – 21^st) begins today. With its close proximity to Los Angeles, Coachella draws visitors from around the world, many seeking out their first U.S. festival experience.
