The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – September 6, 2013
Hey it’s Friday, the weekend’s almost here, and you are beyond ready for some serious fun. Well good, because that’s where we come in. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals to movies, music and cutting edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time. And we’ve got another of our weekend beer picks for you – so you’ll want to check that out. So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks.
Harvest Time in Colorado – The fifth annual Fall Harvest Brewfest will be taking place tonight (9/6) at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. And as Fort Collins is one of the West’s leading brewing centers, you know that the beer being served is going to be special. Join more than 40 of the region’s best breweries and micro-distilleries for music, food, and drink at an early harvest party that’s going to be a total blast. For more info on tonight’s event, check out: Harvest Brewfest
Canada Calling – If ever there were a weekend to make your way north across the border, this is it. This Friday and Saturday (9/6-9/7), Victoria, British Columbia will be hosting the 21st annual Great Canadian Beer Festival. Held each year on the first weekend after Labor Day, this year’s festival will feature more than 55 craft breweries from across Canada and the USA and more than 8,000 happy people coming together in the beautiful city of Victoria to celebrate the diversity of the brewers’ craft. As always, there will be non-stop entertainment and a fantastic selection of the region’s best food. For more info on this “far north fest,” be sure to check out: Great Canadian Beer Festival
Screw City – How do you avoid mentioning an event named the Screw City Beer Festival? The answer is you don’t. Well you can get your minds out of the gutter now gang, because Rockford, Illinois (which is hosting this event on Saturday) was once the “Screw Capital” of the country and this festival pays tribute to the city’s storied industrial past. For more info on this “questionably named” hedonistic beer outing, check out: Screw City Beer Fest …and if any of you go, will you please buy us a T-shirt?
On The Big Screen – Vin Diesel will be wrapping up the long and somewhat underwhelming summer movie season by revisiting his roots. Riddick marks his return to a character and a franchise that made the actor a name back in the day, so we’re thinking he can carry this flick in his sleep. The third in this decade-spanning series finds Riddick left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, hunted by mercenaries and besieged by an alien race of predators. Mayhem ensues. Hey, we’ve already purchased our tickets!
Music / Music / Music – In 2012, Mumford & Sons began hosting Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers, a global series of events in small cities and towns around the world. They spent months selecting unique places, creating venues, building the lineups, and getting to know the local people who helped make the whole thing work. Well they’re doing it again this year and this weekend (9/6-9/7), the tour is landing for two days in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Bands joining the Mumford crew in Guthrie include acts the likes of Alabama Shakes and ACB fav Willie Mason – so be there or be square. For more info and updates, check out: Gents on the Road
Our Awesome Weekend Beer Pick
Ska Brewing will soon be releasing a beer that we’re crazy about. Hoperation Ivy is their legendary wet-hop IPA brewed using “all-Colorado” buds within hours of their harvest. This year’s “Hoperation” will see its first release this Saturday, September 7th at the brewery’s 18th Anniversary Party. It will hit retail the following week as part of Ska’s Local Series, which unfortunately only sees distribution in Colorado.
