Belgian Brewery Rumored To Be In Talks To Buy ACB!
Actually we called them…but whatever.
It appears that Duvel Moortgat will stop at nothing in their ongoing effort to force their way into and eventually control the American Craft Beer scene. Just one day after the Belgian brewery’s monumental purchase of the Kansas City, Missouri-based Boulevard Brewing, word spread like wildfire that the Europeans were not backing away from their maniacal quest to secure some of craft beers most valuable real estate. Their target this time was rumored to have been American Craft Beer.com–one of this country’s leading and most provocative voices–and shockingly the online publication itself may have been the source of those rumors!
“Actually, we did call them,” said Tom Bobak, Founder & Editor-In-Chief of American Craft Beer. “It took us a while to get through to anyone that mattered, but once they stopped laughing, they said that they’d get back to us and we think they will. Hey, if your goal is to ultimately control the American craft beer industry you’re going to need us,” Bobak added. “We’ve got mortgages to pay as well and we can see the way this wind is blowing.”
“This has been a huge week for Duvel Moortgat and Boulevard Brewing” said Matt Lyman, Managing Editor for the iconic craft beer news and lifestyle site. “They’re both brilliant breweries and we think this partnership is a perfect fit for everyone involved. But we don’t think the Belgians are done with their buying spree in the states just yet. They’ve got our number and once they come to their senses, we expect them to call.”
Citing professional dignity both Boulevard Brewing Company and Duvel Moortgat USA declined to comment on these rumors.
