The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – October 23th
Hey it’s Wednesday and that means it’s Rumor Mill Time…The industry’s buzzing about the Two Beers extreme makeover and we’ll be bringing you what we know so far. Plus we’ve got updates from our friends at Deschutes and Hardywood as well as word from “The Last Frontier.” So fasten your seat belts dudes and dudettes…THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

Hardywood Goes NoVa (Richmond, VA) – One of our favorite Richmond-based breweries is making its way north with the help of the “2012 Craft Beer Distributor of the Year.” In November, Brown Distributing will be bringing Hardywood Park Craft Brewery’s portfolio into Northern Virginia.

And So It Begins, Again (Fort Collins, CO) – We just received word from our friends at New Belgium that they are entering the next phase of site preparation and building construction for their Asheville-based East Coast brewery that is on track to open in late 2015. The brewery will ultimately produce 500,000 barrels of beer per year and will feature production and packaging operations as well as a touring and tasting facility.
Room to Grow in “The Last Frontier” (Juneau, AK) – Well if ever there was a state that could afford a brewery some land to grow, Alaska’s it. And that’s a good thing because the Alaskan Brewing Company “is on track to produce just under 150,000 barrels of beer this year,” and Chron.com is reporting that they “recently purchased enough land to double its physical size and are busy readying for a major expansion.”

Tour de Fat Rules! (Fort Collins, CO) – New Belgium Brewing has announced that Tour de Fat, their traveling tour of philanthropic bicycle advocacy, raised $535,924 for local nonprofits this season, totaling more than $3 million in its 14-year stretch. This year’s total is up almost $40,000 from last year. The event is free, yet all proceeds from beer, merchandise sales, and donations from parade participants go to nonprofit organizations focused on making communities a better place to ride a bike.
