Newbies – New Releases That You Want to Look Out For – January 9, 2014

|January 9th, 2014|

So many beers, So little time…Newbies is your essential map to the “best of the best” and the hottest new craft beers rolling out each week, and this week, we’re all about the seasonals. From Heavy Seas’newest seasonal Siren Noire to the latest from 21st Amendment and Revolution Brewing, we’ve got all kinds of new releases you’re going to want to chase down.

So welcome to another edition of Newbies – your ultimate guide to great new craft beers!

Revolution-A-Little-Crazy-labelRevolution Gets A Little Crazy (Chicago, IL) – To commemorate four years of joyful madness and of brewing some truly righteous beers, Revolution Brewing is bringing a canned favorite back. A Little Crazy is their 6.4% ABV Belgian Pale Ale and it’s available now at retail as well as at their tap room at their Kedzie production facility.

Take Exit 1 to the Jersey Shore (Somerdale, NJ) – One of the most popular releases in Flying Fish Brewing’s “very cool” Exit Series is coming back in 12 oz. bottles. Exit 1 is a classic oyster stout, a once-ubiquitous style brewed with local East Point Bayshore oysters. Back in the 1800s, a meal of oysters and oyster stout was commonplace in many taverns, but as pale ales gained popularity over stouts and oyster beds began to decline, it became less common. Exit 1 Bayshore Oyster Stout is brewed with 100 oysters per batch, lending flavor and a one-of-a-kind creaminess to the brew and resulting in a beer that is rich, soft and of course, a perfect complement to a plate of oysters. The beer will be released in mid-January in both bottles and draft and will be available as long as the weather stays cold.

21A sneakattackcan front21st Amendment Stages A Sneak Attack On Winter (San Francisco, CA) – Just as the enemy didn’t expect George Washington to dare to cross the icy Delaware, one doesn’t normally expect a special Saison release in the winter. So with boatloads of bravado, the 21st Amendment Brewery is sneaking up on winter and attacking it with the flavors of summer. Sneak Attack is the brewery’s winter seasonal – a very dry, but not overly bitter, Belgian-style spiced Saison. Sneak Attack Saison will be available from January through March 2014 in cans and on draft in all seventeen of 21st Amendment’s distribution territories.

Fordham-Gypsy-Lager-labelFordham Hits the Reset Button With Three of Their Core Beers (Dover, DE) – February will bring a new beer, a new look, and new names to the Fordham Brewing roster. And all three new core beers, all part of the Rinse and Repeat series, will focus on sessionability. None of the beers will clock in at higher than 5.0% ABV. Copperhead Ale is their re-imaged flagship Amber, Gypsy Lager is their new take on their award-wining Munich-style Helles, and Route 1 Session IPA (their newest addition to their core) will also join the year-round lineup.

Siren Song (Baltimore, MD) – With temps across much of the country plunging into single digits, it’s time for what we at ACB call “fire beers.” Fire beers are rich, strong dark ales and stouts – fit for drinking around open-air fires on cold winter nights – and Heavy Seas Beer has just released one. Siren Noire is their Bourbon Barrel Aged 9.5% ABV Imperial Chocolate Stout that’s also perfect for cellaring, assuming you can hang on to it that long.
