The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – May 12, 2014

So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.
We Have SAVORed (Washington, DC) – This weekend (and week, for that matter) was truly one to remember, thanks to SAVOR’s return to DC’s National Building Museum. We drank, we salon-ed, we rubbed elbows with some of craft beer’s biggest names, and we ate more cheese than we had any right to. A big thanks to the Brewers Association for having us out – it’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience, and we’re already looking forward to next year!
Marky Mark Taking on the Funky Brew (Cambridge, MA) – First, let us apologize for that headline. We shuddered too. Now that that’s out of the way, Mark Wahlberg has another reality show – a pilot called “The Big Brew Theory,” which follows 4 MIT grads who want to start a brewery. Well, I think Mark said it best: “I have more money now than I know what to do with.”
NPR Tackles the Term “Craft Beer” – It’s a constant question from industry folks and fans alike: What is Craft Beer? It’s almost like the age-old questions: “What is art?” or “If a tree falls in the forest…?” or “How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?” Well, NPR recently wrote up a piece discussing what craft beer means now that some Brewers Association rules have changed. While we think the phrase may be subjective, the world of beer doesn’t. What do you think? What is craft beer?
Was Someone Drinking a Draft During the NFL Draft? – College football Quarterback Johnny Manziel has been much maligned for his “I want to be a superstar” attitude, and he may have felt a bit of comeuppance as he plummeted in the draft. So why wouldn’t he have a drink while waiting for his name to be called? Well, according to the Internet, he had a beer. While this turned out to be Photoshop, we just want to know why he would choose a Bud Light. Come on, artists! The guy is a superstar, at least doctor in a good beer.
