Newbies – New Releases That You Want to Look Out For
So many beers, So little time… Ninkasi has revamped their “Flagship Series” lineup for 2015. We’ve more on that for you – plus we’ve news about an exciting new collaboration from Terrapin and New Belgium that you’ll want to chase down next year.
Schwarz Drafted Again! (Bloomington, IN) – Upland Brewing will be returning their popular Black Lager in January as a “draft-only” release. Upland Schwarz is a 5.3% ABVSchwarzbier that originated in medieval Germany. Their take on this ancient lager delivers a deep dark pour but remains crisp, clean, and true to the European tradition.
A Double Secret Old Beer and Flying Goats (Garland, TX) – That’s the translation of the fifth release in Lakewood Brewing’sLegendary Series and it pays homage to a legend from the 1700s of the “bokkenrijders”, or buck riders – demonic criminals who flew the night skies on flying goats. Lakewood’s Bokkenrijders Doppelstike Alt is an 8.5% Double Altbier with a complex drinkability and a warming finish you can’t buck.
Black is the New Wit (Athens, GA) – Terrapin and New Belgium Brewing have teamed up to create something that we’re anxious to try. Black is the New Wit is an 8.2% ABV traditional Belgian Wit brewed using Terrapin’s signature rye malt. The first edition of this collaboration was brewed last October when Terrapin’s Spike Buckowski traveled out to Colorado to brew with Peter Bouckaert at New Belgium. In early December, Peter brewed it again with Spike at Terrapin’s Athens-based facility. Both versions of the beer will be virtually the same with the exception of the wood used for aging. New Belgium’s brew is being aged on cedar, whereas the Terrapin brew will be aged on sassafras. Look for this unique collaboration to be rolling out on draft and in 22 oz. bombers in early February.
Taking A Road Less Traveled (Stratford, CT) – Two Roads Brewing recently released the newest addition to their popular The Road Less Traveled Series and it’s a big one. Two Roads 20 Ton Ale is a massive 12% ABV Blonde Barleywine-style Ale and it’s available now on draft and in bottles if you think you can handle it.
