Winter’s coming and American craft brewers are addressing the cooling season with an intriguing roster of new beers you’re gonna want to have around as the nights get longer.
Winter’s Coming (Hershey, PA) – Tröegs Independent Brewing has returned its longest running and most sought-after seasonal IPA, a winter IPA has been has been a mainstay of the brewery’s Hop Cycle IPA Series since its inception in 2014.
Built on a foundation of pilsner malt and wheat, and brimming with a bracing bitterness, Tröegs Blizzard of Hops is 6.4% ABV India Pale Ale with bright spruce tips, pineapple, and orange rind notes thanks to a combination of Centennial, Chinook, and El Dorado hops.
“It’s a nod to hop growers around the world, thanking them for another successful harvest,” says Tröegs brewmaster and co-founding brother John Trogner. “In the winter, people’s taste buds deaden down and they tend to eat richer and fattier foods,” explains Trogner. “In my mind, there’s a need for bitterness on the beer side to balance that out.”
Blizzard of Hops coincides with the release of Tröegs’ Perpetual Exploration seasonally rotating variety pack for winter. Featuring four hop-forward favorites, this 12-pack includes three cans each of Perpetual IPA, Graffiti Highway IPA, Blizzard of Hops Winter IPA, and Graffiti Highway Double IPA.
