Higher taxes have forced UK pubs to charge more a pint of beer than ever before.. We’ve that, the “World’s Best Pale Ale” and more.
Pub Beer Prices Reach All-Time High
Thanks to significant tax increases in the UK the average price of a pint of beer has never been higher. According to the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) the average price of a pint of beer in April cost more than £5 (that’s around $6.50 US).
Back in 2022, more than half (52%) of Brits believed the price of a pint of beer was already unaffordable, according to a YouGov survey commissioned by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA – think the Brewers Association with a British accent).
More than 400 pubs across England and Wales were demolished or converted for other uses in the year in 2024, according to data by the Altus Group. As a result, the number of UK pubs has now fallen below 39,000 for the first time.
According to the Drinks Business “this is equal to more than 34 pubs a month closing down over the past year, marking the sharpest drop in pub numbers since 2021 amid the Coronavirus pandemic”

World’s Best Pale Ale
One of the beer industry’s most prestigious competitions, the World Beer Cup took place in Indianapolis and awards were presented at the conclusion of Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America.
Considered by many to be the “Olympics of Beer” this competition is a very big deal.
Winning a World Beer Cup is like winning a Grammy an Oscar, an Emmy…it brings the world’s attention to even the smallest brewery’s doorstep…and like a hit song or film, it can make a career.
And in 2025 it called attention to a multi-award winning classic that took a gold medal at the 2025 World Beer Cup, an honor that after its 45-year run pretty much, cements Sierra Nevada Pale Ale as one of the best in the world.
At 5.6% ABV Sierra Nevada’s medium-bodied, bottle-conditioned Pale Ale has stood the test of time and deserves all the acclaim that continue to come its way. And Sierra Nevada is also celebrating the US Park system this summer with special Pale Ale cans featuring landscape images from Yosemite, Yellowstone, Big Bend and Great Smoky Mountain National Parks
