10 Beers That Starred in Big Movies

|February 21st, 2025|

A beer’s appearance in a movie, can sometimes become as memorable as the film itself, a pop-cultural reference that spans decades…Some beers even play such a major role in films that they become almost as famous as the actors themselves.

And here are 10 beers that had their own starring roles in some very big Hollywood films over the years….

Budweiser – Smokey and the Bandit (1977)

Nothing says classic Americana like Budweiser, especially “back in the day.” In Smokey and the Bandit, Bandit (Burt Reynolds) and Snowman (Jerry Reed) smuggle 400 cases of Bud across state lines in a high-speed adventure, solidifying the beer’s status as a cultural icon.

Miller High Life – Groundhog Day (1993)

Bill Murray’s Phil Connors drowns his time-loop sorrows with Miller High Life in Groundhog Day. The beer, known as the “Champagne of Beers,” becomes his drink of choice as he repeatedly relives the same day.

Pabst Blue Ribbon – Blue Velvet (1986)

Dennis Hopper’s character in Blue Velvet makes his beer preference crystal clear when he aggressively declares, “Heineken? F*** that s***! Pabst Blue Ribbon!” The line is now legendary, cementing PBR’s place in cult cinema history.

Heineken – Skyfall (2012)

James Bond drinking anything other than a martini? Blasphemy! But in Skyfall, Daniel Craig’s Bond sips on a Heineken, thanks to a hefty product placement deal. While controversial, it proved that even 007 enjoys a good brew.

Corona – The Fast and the Furious (2001)

Before family and fast cars became the backbone of The Fast and the Furious franchise, there was Corona. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) proudly declares, “You can have any beer you want… as long as it’s a Corona,” making the brand synonymous with street racing and its drivers.

Red Stripe – The Firm (1993)

Tom Cruise’s character enjoys a few bottles of Red Stripe while in the Cayman Islands in The Firm. The Jamaican beer gets a solid Hollywood moment as part of the film’s tropical setting.

Coors – E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

Young Elliott steals some Coors from the fridge in E.T., leading to a hilariously drunk alien and one of the funniest sequences in the film. The beer may not have been the main star, but it certainly played a memorable role.

Schlitz – Animal House (1978)

Few movies celebrate beer quite like Animal House, and Schlitz is front and center in the frat house shenanigans. John Belushi’s Bluto chugging a beer in one gulp remains one of the most iconic beer moments in film.

Old Style – The Blues Brothers (1980)

Duff Beer – The Simpsons Movie (2007)

Okay, it’s not a real beer (at least not originally), but Duff Beer is a crucial part of Homer Simpson’s life in The Simpsons Movie. The fictional brew has since been made into a real product, proving just how influential it has been in pop culture.
