European brewers have a rich histories and admirable traditions. But American breweries are increasingly making their mark abroad, most recently at the European Beer Star competition.

Here’s the deal….

Now in its 18th year, The European Beer Star, is a prestigious competition committed to the traditional European art of brewing, recognizing authenticity and quality in a contest that is limited to beer categories that originate in Europe.

This year’s competition, which was held in Gräfelfing, Germany, attracted 2,395 beers from 44 different countries which were judged by more than 120 beer experts.

And American brewers took home 18 medals in total including five gold, four silver, and nine bronze.

“We view the European Beer Star as important international competitions to do well in, and winning a medal in Europe is particularly sweet,” said Adam Robbings, co-founder of Reuben’s Brews. “Independent expert reviews is a key way of assessing the quality of our beer, and winning medals shows that technically we are on the right track. It’s a great way of providing feedback to our brewers, too.”

“The strong performance of American craft beer at international beer competitions is testimony to its world class quality and the skill, expertise, and creativity of American craft brewers, Lotte Peplow, the Brewers Association American Craft Beer Ambassador for Europe added.

”Winning medals at international competitions such as Brussels Beer Challenge and European Beer Star underpins that reputation and provides a valuable point of difference in today’s competitive marketplace.”
