The Drunkest States in America
The Drunkest States in America
Don’t act like you don’t want to know…you’re probably part of these statistics.
Here’s the deal…
In the world of unfortunate power rankings comes this handy compilation of the nation’s drunkest states.
To identify the drunkest states in America, 24/7 Wall Street reviewed the percentage of men and women over 18 who report binge or heavy drinking in every state. Binge drinking is in this case was defined as four or more drinks in a single occasion for women and five or more for men, and heavy drinking is defined as at least eight drinks per week for women and 15 for men.
The state data came from the County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute joint program.
The health data including the premature death rate, and the percentage of adults who report being in fair or poor health, also came from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps (CHR).
Health outcomes, including percentage of driving deaths that are alcohol related, and the percentage of adults who report being in fair or poor health are also from the CHR.
It wasn’t all that surprising that Utah came out as the least-drunk state in America, it has a huge Mormon population and they don’t drink alcohol at all.
But we caught off-guard by Wisconsin being ranked as the drunkest state in the US, with an enormous 24.2% of its population drinking excessively – five percent higher than the national average.
