5 Essential Craft Beers For Cinco De Mayo

5 Essential Craft Beers For Cinco De Mayo

|May 5th, 2021|

May 5th is officially Cinco de Mayo, one of Mexico’s biggest holiday’s commemorating the defeat of Napoleon’s French army by a small force Mexican force at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

In the US it’s basically a cultural celebration and another great opportunity to start drinking early…and we’ve 5 appropriately-themed craft beers that you’ll want to have in hand

Coming up with the right American beer suggestions for Cinco de Mayo used to be more difficult, but with more craft beer lagers now being brewed than ever before, it’s never been more fun!

Firestone Walker 805 Cerveza

Firestone Walker’s newest addition to its popular 805 brand nails the Mexican Brewing tradition with Central Coastal Californian swagger to spare.

Brewed to be enjoyed in the hills or on the beach, on the asphalt, around a desert fire and on Cinco De Mayo, 805 Cerveza is a 4.5% ABV full-bodied, yet approachable, crisp, clean and dry, lager with just a touch of well-placed lime that never overpowers.

Ska Mexican Logger

Durango Colorado-based Ska Brewing was one of the first craft brewers to champion the emerging Mexican Craft Lager trend and they still brew one of its best.

Humbly described by the brewery as “the perfect Mexican Lager,” and madly fueled on super-bright Saaz hops, Ska’s crushable, 5.2% ABV Mexican Logger more than lives up to their claim.

21st Amendment El Sully

Northern California’s 21st Amendment introduced this sessionable year-round lager back in 2015 and it deservedly became an immediate hit.

Both a nod to the endless summers spent on southern California beaches, and a homage to Mexican beers like Dos Equis that are abundantly enjoyed south of the border, EL Sully is a 4.8% Mexican Lager pumped with Pilsner and Vienna malts, flaked maize and Mexican yeast.

Lone Tree Mexican Lager

One of Colorado’s first canned Mexican-style lagers remains one of craft beer’s best. This award-winning lager has taken both a gold medal and a silver at the Great American Beer Festival for good reason.

A legend in Lone Tree, Colorado, as well as in much of the West, Lone Tree’s  5.3% ABV Mexican Lager, which is brewed with malt, hops, water, yeast, and a touch of flaked corn, is a testament to keeping things simple.

Boulevard ¡Vamos!

You might have noticed that all the beers we’ve showcased so far are from breweries based in the West. But there’s a Kansas City brewer that also nails the style and is widely distributed.

Bursting with sweet honey and toasted malt aromatics and fruity citrus notes provided by its welcome use of German Mandarina Bavaria hops, Boulevard ¡Vamos! Is a 5.2% ABV straw-colored refresher with just enough hop bitterness for balance.
