2020 is ON …and you’re ready for the fun. Well good, because from the nation’s coolest beer events, to movies, music and cutting edge TV – we’ve got you covered. Plus we’ve another weekend beer pick for you, because we know you’ll be drinking.
The Day Of The Living Ales Returns This Weekend (Chicago, IL) – This Saturday March 7 the Chicago Beer Society will be presenting the 2020 Day of the Living Ales at Chicago’s Bottom Lounge, and if you care about cask ales you need to be there.
The national drink of Great Britain, cask conditioned ales have been served for centuries. Before brewers fell in love with artificial carbonation and filtering, beer was naturally conditioned by yeast in the cask, and served at a temperature warm enough to actually taste the beer. A properly served cask ale is neither cloudy, flat, nor warm; rather it is bright, with a gentle carbonation, and served at cellar temperature.
This year’s two-session extravaganza will feature cask conditioned ales from breweries all around Chicagoland. As always, casks at Day of the Living Ales are handled by CBS’s experienced cellarmen, trained in the UK to ensure that you get the full cask experience and drink beer the way it was always meant to be enjoyed.
On The Big Screen – This weekend’s most visible movie opening, The Way Back stars Ben Affleck as Jack Cunningham, a potential pro athlete who walked away from the game. His glory days over, Jack gets the chance to take back his life when he is asked to coach the struggling basketball team at his alma mater. Joe Morgenstern at the Wall Street Journal wrote that “Affleck owns the role. He plays it with the subtlety of a character actor and the coiled ferocity of the star he has always been.”
A Capital Beer Outing In California (Sacramento, CA) – The 10th Annual Capital Beer Fest returns to the Capital Mall in Sacramento this Saturday (3/7) and it’s not to be missed. This year’s afternoon beerganza will feature more than 300 beers from over 125 of the region’s best breweries, so you should have enough drink. And 100% of the proceeds go to the Runnin’ for Rhett Youth Fitness Program so you’ll be doing a good thing.
THE ACB WEEKEND BEER PICK
This weekend we’ll be tapping into the latest release from Firestone Walker’s ever-evolving Luponic Distortion Series, a 5.6% ABV India Pale Ale fueled this time around by emerging hops from New Zealand that were personally sourced by Brewmaster Matt Brynildson during the Southern Hemisphere hop harvest.
