Indiana Convenience Stores Find A ‘Work Around’ To Cold Beer Prohibition
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
Mahatma Gandhi
Frustrated by laws that limit the ability to sell cold beer at their venues, Indiana’s convenience store owners may have come up with a tactically brilliant solution…
Here’s the deal…
For years Indiana’s convenience store owners have been asking lawmakers to update the state’s code, allowing them to sell cold beer with their alcohol licenses.
And for years, they have been thwarted by liquor stores (and the well-funded lobbyist who represent them) who are unwilling to share their cold beer profits.
But now according to the Indy Star there’s a new product, the Chill Indiana Bag, a reusable bag that sells for $6.99 that will be filled with ice for free by participating convenience and grocery store owners, so your beer will get cold on the drive home.
And no it’s not an answer to archaic laws kept in place by powerful liquor store lobbies and Indiana lawmakers who’ve become accustomed to their campaign donations.
But it is a finger in the eye (or maybe just a finger) to politicians so unwilling to do what the state’s residents have been asking for, for decades… simply allowing the sale of cold beer at convenience and grocery store in Indiana.
