Beers can not only taste good…They can do good. And here a three American craft beers that were brewed to do both….

Two Richmond Breweries Remember a Lost Friend

Three weeks after a Virginia man died during a triathlon competition in the James River, two Richmond breweries doing their part to keep his memory alive and help the family he left behind.

Quy Pham was a popular bartender for Mekong Restaurant in Henrico County. He was a beloved member of Richmond’s craft beer community and his untimely death resonated.

And to celebrate his short life (Quy was only 35) two area craft breweries are remembering him in different ways…

According to NBC 12 “The image of Quy Pham with the words Diablo Forever were painted on the side of the Answer Brewery on West Broad Street.” And Richmond’s The Veil Brewing Company has released Quy, a special barrel-aged milk stout that hopes to raise funds for Pham’s family.

Iowa Beer Collaboration Aids Flood Victims and Craft Brewery

“When the levee broke in downtown Davenport, Rich Nunez, the owner of Radicle Effect Brewerks reached out to his friend Scott Lehnert, owner of Great River Brewery”according to KWQC.

And together they crafted Levee Breach Rye-It, a charitable brown IPA that was brewed to represent how muddy the Mississippi was when the levees broke and flooded area businesses.

Whenever a customer buys Levee Breach Rye-It, proceeds are donated to help local businesses affected by the flood. And one of those local businesses is Great River Brewery, which remains closed months after the flood.

Wicked Weed Returns Hurricane Relief Beer’

Asheville, North Carolina-based Wicked Weed Brewing has announced the second in their Beers that Build program, a series of beers that donates a portion of its profits back to the community.

Originally brewed in collaboration with Green Man Brewing out of Asheville and Broomtail Brewing out of Wilmington, as a direct response to Hurricane Florence, Wicked Weed Coastal Love is a 6.3% ABV New England-style IPA that will continue to generate funds for hurricane relief.

“We learned with the initial launch of Coastal Love that is takes time to launch a beer, generate funds, and get donations into the hands of those in need,” said Rachel Dudasik, Community Engagement Coordinator for Wicked Weed Brewing, and “decided a proactive approach would allow for immediate action at the time disaster strikes.  Funds generated from Coastal Love will be distributed to areas throughout the Southeast affected by the inevitable hurricane season,”
