US Beer Imports and Exports Grow

The Beer Imports and Exports Report is a monthly publication providing a snapshot of beer imports and exports into and out of the United States over the preceding 24 months. And it’s most recent report is generally good news especially for Mexican beer producers…

Here’s the deal…

A recent report conducted by the beer, wine and spirits analytics firm bw166.com, has released its beer Import/Export data ending in November 2018.

Imported beer grew +4% by volume and grew +5.7% by value over the last twelve months. So all good there…

Over the last three months beer imports grew +2.6% by volume and grew +2.4% by value. And, not surprisingly, 67.2% of imported beer by value comes from Mexico.

That’s good news for drinks giant, Constellation Brands which bought the US rights to Mexican megabrands Corona, Modelo, Victoria, and Pacifico as part of a $4.8 billion deal back in 2013.

Since that 2013 deal, Constellation has watched as “sales of brews from south of the border surged 44 percent, even as domestic beer sales dipped 3.5 percent,” according to Mother Jones, who also note that the Victor, New York-based company’s beer brands now “account for about 1 in 11 brews sold in the US.”

The Motley Fool, a multimedia financial services company with stock analysts who watch the beer biz, credit America’s growing Hispanic population with playing a part in the growing popularity of Mexican beers in the US.

Unfortunately beer export data was more of a mixed bag…

Although exported beer grew +0.1% by volume and grew +6.9% by value over the last twelve months, over the last three months exports declined -23.3% by volume and declined -15% by value. And 20.6% of exported beer by value goes to Mexico.
