And with COVID-19 limiting access between beer reps and retailers the timing of Next Glass’ new venture couldn’t be better.

If you’ve heard of Next Glass Inc., it’s probably because you use the popular Untappd app which was founded by Greg Avola and Tim Mather in 2010, and became a subsidiary of Next Glass in 2016.
With a major funding boost provided by Boston-based Providence Strategic Growth, Next Glass which “develops software and creates experiences that connect consumers, retailers and producers in the alcohol beverage industry” added to its growing empire acquiring “certain assets” from web-based ratings and forum platform, Beer Advocate, in 2020.
And now Next Glass is embarking on a whole new venture that could upend traditional beer sales and distribution practices, especially in light of a pandemic that refuses to go away.
Untappd Marketplace is an online alcohol ordering platform that provides one convenient location for retailers to browse products and place orders and allows distributors to increase efficiencies with a suite of tools for managing orders, sales reps, and products across all accounts.
“If you’re a retailer with decent craft offerings, your ordering system is pretty fragmented,” Next Glass CEO Trace Smith explained to Forbes. “But the retailer’s time is more valuable than that.”
Untappd Marketplace aims to “seamlessly string together the three-tier system of alcohol distribution with software solutions,” Smith added.
Currently being beta tested in Wilmington, North Carolina, Untappd Marketplace is already generating fans

Whether Untappd Marketplace becomes as prevalent as its popular beer ratings app remains to be seen. But with the impact Covid-19 rearranging how the beer industry might look going forward, it’s time may have already arrived.
