UK Beer Technician Finds 5ft Snake in Bar Cooler

C’mon how is a gigantic snake making its home in a pub’s beer cooler not news? Especially when you were hired to “snake out” the cooler lines…not get a snake out of the cooler!

Here’s the deal….

A brewery technician who was hired to repair a beer cooler at a Warwickshire pub in the United Kingdom, got a little bit more than he bargained for when, “what he thought was algae, turned out to be a 5ft long snake according to Birmingham Live.

Paul Guild, 49, was called out to the New Swan pub in Atherton to fix a faulty beer cooler.

And when he went in to inspect the remote cooler in the pub’s cellar, what he took to be algae (and a possible source of the problem) turned out to be an enormous snake wrapped around a pump inside the water bath.

“I gave it a pull and it moved! I jumped out of my skin, then thought I was seeing things. So I checked it with the torch on my phone and it was a snake.

“I went upstairs to call our Health and Safety team to make a report – I think it is the first time anyone has reported a snake incident – it’s usually a mild electric shock, or getting covered in beer!”

“I don’t mind spiders and things, but I really don’t like snakes!”

Emma Campbell, 43, co-owner of the New Swan Pub still isn’t sure how the snake got into the cooler. “We did have a resident who had a corn snake, and he left weeks ago, so it could have been his.”

(Yah think?)

“But the animal welfare people who collected it said that it could have come in from outside – apparently they can slip in and out quite easily”.

The intruder was confirmed to be a corn snake (so maybe the aforementioned ‘resident’ after all?)

And the brewery technician had a right to be concerned…A quick trip to Wikipedia informed us that although corn snakes are non-venomous their appearance is very similar to a copperhead and that’s a snake that you want to avoid.
