THE AMERICAN CRAFT BEER WEEKEND PICKS – November 9, 2012

This has been an exhausting week, and it is up to us all to kick back and relax this weekend. And craft beer is there for you! With festivals galore and some excellent movies coming out, it’s time for us to band together as a country and celebrate: The Weekend Picks.

Chicagoans should take a walk down to the Riverfront Theater for Beer Hoptacular. Friday and Saturday, attendees have the chance to compare beers from over 60 breweries from across the country, and vote for their favorite “Beer Hoptacular Beer of the Year”. Chicago + Craft Beer = Win.

Saturday marks the start of Dallas Beer Week. With over 90 different events planned, you need to get yourself over there to taste some fantastic craft offerings from brewers like Deep Ellum and Oskar Blues, you can’t miss. For a calendar of events, click here and check out ACB’s Dallas Correspondent Amber Medin and her picks for what’s hot in Dallas.

Craft beer and music enthusiasts in Glen Allen, Virginia have quite a treat in front of them, as they can hit up the “Taste the Local” at the West Broad Village Festival. Four bands, artists, two restaurants and a bunch of local beer will converge on Saturday. Want to check it out? More info here.

If you’re in the Atlanta area on Saturday, pay a visit to NovemBEER Fest at the Buckhead Theatre. From 6pm-11pm, there will be over 100 beers, live music and college football up on the TVs. $40 presale and $48 day of event. Look for our Atlanta Correspondent, Tim Ho!

Serious Film Pick: This is a no-brainer. The only movie you should be seeing is Skyfall, the newest in the James Bond franchise. While we are still a bit chapped by the studio’s choice to sell a sponsorship to Heineken, removing his signature martini, we will be seeing Daniel Craig blow some crap up. Still wondering if you should? Peter Travers from Rolling Stone: “This is Bond like you’ve never seen him and a dynamite Daniel Craig, never better in the role, nails Bond’s ferocity and feeling. Skyfall is smashing, just smashing.”

Our Weekend Beer Picks: Now that the political shenanigans are over, it’s time to focus on more important things. That is what Colorado’s Grimm Brothers Brewhouse and Twisted Pine Brewing Company will be doing on Sunday, November 11th. Twisted Pine will be giving away free six packs of American Amber Ale to active and retired military. Grimm Brothers will be releasing a special small batch Cherry Snow Drop Kottbusser Ale in honor of those who served, with all proceeds being donated to American Military Family, Inc. (AMF) www.amf100.org. So, support our troops and enjoy craft beer at the same time.
