The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 7, 2014

Hey it’s Friday and work’s been brutal and the weather not much better -so you’re ready for some fun. Well good, because we’re all about it and we’ve got all kinds of ideas. From the nation’s coolest beer festivals to movies, music, and cutting-edge TV – we’ve got your back big-time.

So welcome to our awesome Weekend Picks…

Bockfest Over The Rhine (Cincinnati, OH) – The 22st annual Bockfest is taking place this weekend in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine and central business districts. This three-day event is the oldest and the largest in the United States and it celebrates both the city’s brewing heritage and the coming of spring. It all kicks of tonight (3/7) with a parade that weaves through the city’s neighborhoods and ends up at Bockfest Hall for the blessing of the ceremonial first keg. (It doesn’t get any cooler than that – does it?) The Hall, which will remain open all weekend, will feature live entertainment, food, walking tours, and, of course, plenty of bock beer. , The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 7, 2014On The Big Screen – After weeks of what we call “hangover movies” – flicks so bad that they should only be viewed by those who’d rather rehab alone in the darkness of some half-empty Cineplex – there may be a glimmer of hope. We’re not saying that 300: Rise of an Empire is going to be 12 Years a Slave – we’re just sayin that it might not be total garbage. This weekend’s Greek-fest is sequel (prequel?) to 2006’s 300, a fantasy action film based on the ancient Battle of Thermopylae that went on to become an enormous international hit. The movie is a theatrical, romanced, highly graphic view of Greek history of the second Persian invasion of Greece (480-479 BC) – but basically it’s a comic book come to life – full of warriors and hot babes with swords – not that there’s anything wrong with that.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 7, 2014The Spring Seasonal Craft Beer Festival Is On! (Washington, DC) – We’ve been buzzing about DC Craft Beer Festival for a while now. We enjoyed events up in NYC that were put on by the “Handcrafted” people in the past – and they know how to throw a beer festival. There’s an afternoon session and an evening one, and we hope to drink our way through both of them. So if you’re planning on going (and you should) – look for us so we can hang! There may still be a ticket or two left for the afternoon session and we know there’s still some evening availability. But don’t wait on this – we want to see you! , The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – March 7, 2014TV Time – HBO introduced a new “noir” series last month and if you’ve not started watching it, you may well be missing 2014’s finest new drama. True Detective is about a murder mystery, told back and forth in time, which takes place in the backwater towns of Louisiana over a seven-year period. The story is told through the eyes of two detectives, Woody Harrelson and this season’s academy award winner, Matthew McConaughey, who star as unlikely partners working together to solve a disturbing ritual-slaying that haunts them both (literally and metaphorically) for years. This is great TV that puts most big screen releases to shame – and it shouldn’t be missed.
