The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – June 28, 2013

Hey it’s Friday and the 4th of July is just around the corner. Summer has arrived with a vengeance and you’re ready for some summertime fun. That’s where we come in! We’re all about it and we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve got a special weekend beer pick that you’ll want to track down. So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – June 28, 2013The Epic Beer Festival is taking place tonight and tomorrow (June 28th – 29th) at the Colorado Convention Center and we’ve got to admit – it sounds epic! This inaugural event will feature 160 craft breweries and more than 350 beers to sample…and it’s for a good cause! The festival benefits We Don’t Waste, a Colorado-based nonprofit that is an innovative provider of food for the hungry. They collect unused food from venues, caterers, restaurants, and other food purveyors and distribute the food to Denver’s underserved populations. , The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – June 28, 2013There are a couple of movies opening this weekend that caught our attention and we thought you might want to know about. The Heat appears to be a continuation in the female-driven comedy phenomenon that started with Bridesmaids…Sandra Bullock stars as an uptight FBI agent forced to partner with a Boston cop (Melissa McCarthy) to take down a local drug lord. Think Bridesmaids with badges. If you’d rather be thrilled than have some laughs, Roland Emmerich’s White House Down might get that done. Channing Tatum stars as a capital policeman who jumps ugly when a paramilitary force overtakes the White House and endangers the President (Jamie Foxx). If you think you might have seen this movie already – well, you may have. Olympus Has Fallen successfully covered similar ground earlier this year but it seems that America can’t get enough of attacks on the White House.

The 17th Annual Great European Beerfest is being held in Pittsburgh this weekend. This event, which organizers describe as America’s “only all-European Beerfest,” is taking place on Saturday and Sunday at the Sharp Edge Beer Emporium and will feature more than 135 beers (including 40 from Belgium). Admission includes 3 hours of endless tastings and 6,000 square-feet of imports. There will be live music…there will be delicious homemade food…but most importantly, THERE WILL BE BEER!
