The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – July 12, 2013

Hey it’s Friday and the weekend’s almost here. We’re almost halfway though summer and you’re ready for some fun and that’s where we come in! We’re all about it and we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve got a special weekend beer pick that you’ll want to track down. So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – July 12, 2013Our friends at WGBH in Boston are doing a craft beer event this weekend and some of the ACB crew are going to be there. So we’re thinking maybe you should go too (if only to make sure they’re behaving themselves)! The WGBH Craft Beer Festival will be kicking off in Beantown this Saturday night (7/13) from 7 to 10 PM and you’re invited to celebrate with WGBH and other hop aficionados. Enjoy some of New England’s finest craft brews and Boston’s best eats from local food truck vendors, and have fun drinking with abandon! For more info on what promises to be too much fun, check out: WGBH Craft Beer Festival

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – July 12, 2013As far as movies opening this weekend go, it doesn’t get any bigger than Pacific Rim – and we mean that literally! We’re talking gigantic monsters vs. robots here. And although it might sound like a fanboy’s geek-fest, it could possibly be much better than that. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, his mega-robot vs. kaiju project chronicles a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures, where a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a gigantic special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse. This movie sounds perfect paired with popcorn and may well be the guilty pleasure of the summer.

The Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild is bringing back the newest of its craft beer festivals to Duluth this weekend and you should think about checking it out. The second annual All Pints North Summer Brew Fest will feature beer brewed in Minnesota by breweries and brewpubs, plus a selection of the best regional and national craft brands. It all takes place tomorrow, July 13, down by the lake in Duluth at Bayfront Festival Park. Get ready to meet the brewers and enjoy unlimited and amazing Minnesota craft beer samples, hip food vendors, beer-centered activities and educational components, live music and entertainment, and much more!

Named one of last year’s essential summer festivals, The Bunbury Music Festival returns to Cincinnati this weekend! This three-day rock fest (July 13, 14, and 15) brings together more than 80 of the nation’s biggest performers, including bands like FUN, MGMT and the National, and if we weren’t going to be up in Boston, we’d be here!

Our Awesome Weekend Beer Pick

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – July 12, 2013A Rock ‘n’ Roll Rye (Charlottesville, VA) – Cville’s newest brewery, Champion Brewing Co, is collaborating with regional stalwart Blue Mountain Brewery on a new rockin’ Rye IPA, Rye Barchetta. The brew pays tribute to Canadian rockers Rush and their recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, taking its name from their hit song Red Barchetta. “I’m a huge RUSH fan and Hunter [Champion’s founder] is a musician, so he has respect for the band, and we decided “Rye Barchetta” would be a cool name,” explains Co-Owner Matt Nucci of Blue Mountain. And like the band, it will have big presence – it’s brewed with 21 pounds of Simcoe, Citra, Galaxy, and Falconer’s Flight hops! The brewing took place this week, so expect to see it on tap in about three weeks exclusively at Blue Mountain and Champion breweries.
