North to Alaska (Anchorage, Alaska) – Frigid climates were made for drinking Barleywine. So our northwestern friends might want to check out the Great Alaska Beer & Barleywine Festival taking place this weekend at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center. This two-day (Jan 17th-18th), three-session beerganza will feature over 200 Barleywines, Winter Warmers, and cold-weather seasonals from the Far North’s most-accomplished brewers. There will also be a judged competition, live music, and more 
food than you could ever consume! General session tickets are $45 per person. Admission price includes a 6 oz. commemorative glass, 30 samples, and official program for those who can read.
On The Big Screen – Michael Mann (Heat, Last of the Mohicans, Ali) is one of our favorite directors. He has a new movie opening this weekend and it couldn’t be timelier. Blackhat is a film that takes on cyber-crime and tells the story of a furloughed convict (Chris Hemsworth) and his American and Chinese partners as they hunt down a high-level international network with the power to take down nations.
A Winter Blast Predicted for Ohio This Weekend (Columbus, OH) – The 4th Annual Columbus Winter Brewfest is returning to the Greater Columbus Convention Center this weekend. This two-evening (Jan 
17th-18th) will feature more than 300 beers from over 60 of the region’s most-brilliant breweries. Special Connoisseur tickets–which offer early admission, food, and a rare selection of beers–are also available. For a complete listing of what everyone’s bringing, check out: Columbus Winter Beerfest
Hooks, Lines, & Singers (South Walton, Florida) – Combine warm weather with 150 artists performing at 25 venues located along the scenic highway 30A in Northwest Florida – and that sounds like a perfect weekend to us. Described as “the Sundance of songwriter festivals,” The 30A Songwriters Festival is three days (Jan 16th-18th) of great singers and songs and it’s absolutely unlike any festival that you’ve ever attended. This year’s event features artist like Graham Nash, Indigo Girls, Leon Russell, Jason Isbell, Shawn Mullins, Nickel Creek’s Sara Watkins, and Glen Phillips (from 
Toad the Wet Sprocket) and is not to be missed!
Our Weekend Beer Pick
When the weather gets colder, we like our brews darker and bolder – and we’ve a barrel-aged classic for you from the Lakewood Brewing Company. Released in Mid-December, Lakewood 2014 Bourbon Barrel Temptress is their beloved Imperial Milk Stout aged for six months in freshly emptied bourbon barrels, and it’s awesome!
