The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – August 2, 2013

Hey it’s Friday, the weekend’s almost here, and you are “beyond ready” for some serious summertime fun. Well good, because that’s where we come in. We’re all about it and we’ve got your back big-time. Plus we’ve got a couple of weekend beer picks that you’ll want to track down. So welcome to this week’s edition of our awesome Weekend Picks!

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – August 2, 2013One of craft beer’s most popular events is taking place this Saturday when Belgium Comes to Cooperstown kicks off at the beautiful Ommegang compound in upstate New York! The return of what may be their most famous Belgian beer festival offers beer enthusiasts the opportunity to taste hard-to-find Belgian ales from the Motherland and Belgian-style ales from all over North America. This weekend’s Belgian-Fest features 75 breweries, 300 unique beers, and an after-party complete with music, dancing, and a bonfire! For more info on this one-of-a-kind event, check out: Ommegang Events

I, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – August 2, 2013f you’re up for an action/comedy/buddy flick directed by an Icelandic director – then 2 Guns, which opens this weekend, might be the ticket! Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington star as a DEA agent and a naval intelligence officer who find themselves on the run after a botched attempt to infiltrate a drug cartel. We get that this movie might sound a bit like “you’ve been there before” – but the only other big movie opening this week is The Smurfs 2 – so you choose.

Avery Brewing will be throwing their 20th Anniversary Party in Boulder, Colorado on Sunday, August 4, and you’ll be making an enormous mistake if you don’t go. As with many of their events, it’s all taking place at the brewery’s elegant taproom, where in addition to a special assortment of their finest beers, there will be a barbeque spread and live music. This afternoon party (12 – 5pm) promises to be a blast – so don’t miss it.

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – August 2, 2013There’s only one music festival taking place this weekend that truly matters and that’s Lollapalooza 2013. What started as a touring music festival in 1991 by Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell has become a definitively unique music experience. This three-day festival (August 2nd-4th) takes place in Chicago’s historic Grant Park, between the city’s iconic skyline and the shores of Lake Michigan, and features some of music’s biggest names. For updates and the complete line-up, check out: Lollapalooza 2013

Short’s Brewing Company will be pulling out all the stops this Saturday, August 3, at their production brewery in Elk Rapids, Michigan when the fourth annualShort’s Fest returns! This evening beerganza will feature live music, food, and endless beer. There are even going to be fireworks, so what more could you ask for?

Two Awesome Weekend Beer Picks

, The American Craft Beer Weekend Picks – August 2, 2013We’ve got two picks for you this weekend and they’re both part of New Belgium Brewing’s boundary-breaking Lips of Faith Series. The 8% ABV Yuzu Berliner Weisse pairs the citrusy juice of the Asian Yuzu fruit with sour Berliner Weisse to create something entirely different. The 8% ABV Coconut Curry Hefeweizen has been popular among homebrewers for years. It’s a big and bold beer that offers coconut and curry tones alongside a hint of banana from the hefe yeast and like the Yuzu Berliner Weisse, it’s on shelves now.
