Hey it’s Wednesday and it’s Rumor Mill time… American troops and their families get a helping hand from a Saint. A big baby Buddha is turning 1 and the AHA 2014 Conference Beer is named. We also have some much needed good news for GWAR fans!

So fasten your seat belts everybody… THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

Funky Buddha is Turning 1 & Growing Fast! (Oakland Park, FL)It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since Funky Buddha Brewery first opened its doors in June 2013. So a birthday party is set for May 31, 2014, and the brewery is ready to celebrate with a day-long festival of live music, the area’s best food trucks, and dozens of its own brand of culinary-influenced beers. Now, as year two looms, Funky Buddha is in the midst of a $3 million expansion featuring new equipment, a larger space, and bottles of its unique and innovative beer on the way this fall. This new growth spurt will bring Funky Buddha’s brewing capacity from 5,000 to 16,000 barrels – which is a present for all of us!

Founders Oak-Aged Rye IPA named AHA 2014 Conference Beer (Grand Rapids, MI)The American Homebrewers Association has chosen Grand Rapids as the 2014 AHA conference location, so it only seems fitting that Founders Brewing Oak-Aged Rye IPA would be named the conference beer. It’s brewed with Munich and Crystal malts and a huge percentage of rye malt. It’s also bittered and flavored with German Magnum and Perle hops, then heavily finished and dry-hopped with Cascade hops hand selected from the Yakima Valley. It’s going to be great! Bottles of this beer will only be available to conference attendees. It will not be available anywhere else – so you know what to do.

A Bittersweet Reunion (Tampa, FL & Richmond, VA) – As many of you know, the world lost a beautiful genius/madman when GWAR front man Dave Brockie passed on March 23, 2014. But as Oderus would say, “Quit cryin’ you pussies, the show must go on!” And go on it will. The 5th annual GWAR B-Q will be held in Richmond, VA on August 16th with a public memorial for Dave the day before. This year’s GWAR Beer is called Killsner and it will be brewed and packaged by Cigar City. Killsner, while not actually a Pilsner, will include a good amount of Pilsner malt. It will be packaged in 12 oz. cans and comes in at 5.55% ABV. Release dates are TBD so stay tuned because it will be available in limited quantities around the Tampa Bay and Richmond areas.
