, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – May 1, 2013Sam Cans Hit the Street (Boston, MA)Samuel Adams Boston Lager is expected to hit the shelves this week in specially designed new cans. The Sam cans are a departure for the Boston Beer Company, which for years has been steadfast in their commitment to bottles. The new cans are the result of two years of research and testing and are said to provide a drinking experience that is closer to the taste and comfort of drinking beer from a glass.

Heavy Seas Getting Bigger (Baltimore, MD) – Looks like Heavy Seas Beer will be getting bigger. In the next few weeks, they will receive three new 200-barrel tanks, which will allow them to keep up with production demands for their flagship IPA, Loose Cannon. Future plans include a new brewhouse in 2014, so you know they’re going to be busy.

Not The Best News From The Beer Institute (Washington, DC) – Yesterday, the Beer Institute, a trade association representing all brewers and beer importers as well as industry suppliers, released its Q1 industry estimates – and the news could have been better. Data based on an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid by beer brewers indicated an industry decline in March of 4.3% and a 2.7% drop for 2013’s frost quarter. Ouch!

Sun King will also host the first-ever beer garden during the festival on Georgia Street.

Boston Beer Doing More Good Things (Boston, MA) – To continue the successful momentum of its small business microlending and business mentoring efforts, The Boston Beer Company announces the expansion of its Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream program. Key objectives in 2013 include providing an additional $1 million in microloans to approximately 100 new small businesses owners, inviting Samuel Adams drinkers to participate in the program, and increasing Brewing the American Dream’s coaching and mentoring activities for small businesses throughout the country.

Brew Hub Finds Its Home in the Sunshine State (Lakeland, FL) – Having found a site that accommodates their unique needs and sits in a prime location for distribution, Brew Hub LLC has signed a 50,400-square-foot industrial lease in Lakeland, Florida. St. Louis-based Brew Hub is a new business model in the craft brewing industry that allows for craft brewers to partner with the company, brew their beers on-site, and then have the beer packaged and distributed using Brew Hub’s distribution system. The idea is to allow craft brewers to expand their distribution without the overhead costs of building new breweries or transporting beer across the country.

An Awesome New Release You Want to Look Out For

Saint Arnold Brewing Co. has announced the upcoming release of the latest in the brewery’s line of rotating beers. Saint Arnold Icon Green is an Amarillo-hopped summer Hefeweizen inspired by a recipe developed three years ago by Saint Arnold Brewer Sam Wright as a wedding gift for his sister and brother-in-law. The beer gets the name Icon Green from its striking metallic green and black label. It will be available in 4-packs of 12 oz bottles and on tap in bars and restaurants throughout Texas and Louisiana beginning later this week.
