The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – March 27, 2013

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – March 27, 2013It’s Wednesday and that means its Rumor Mill time! We have some news for you regarding how beer can help you fight disease, how it can help you increase the economy, and how there are so many beards in the industry. There is also some big news coming out of Texas that all fans of good beer need to be aware of. It’s on!

Beer good for your heart and bones, study shows – A study recently released, says that having a beer now and then can actually keep you healthy. Similar to the red wine drinkers in Europe, new data shows that beer may have some health benefits. “Research in Europe found moderate beer drinkers had 30 percent higher levels of the disease-fighting vitamin B6 compared to non-drinkers.” Whoa. Drinking really IS the cause of, and answer to, all the world’s problems!

Beer is good for the economy, as well (Michigan) – With 120 brewers in Michigan, 141 distributors, and 16,744 retail stores in the state of Michigan, they were ripe for an economic boom. These three beer sellers accounted for $2 billion of the Michigan economy. That’s right. BILLION. With $911 million in taxes generated, and $293 million in taxed paid, they sure are doing it right. So, shop craft, and shop local!

Beards are good for your face (Colorado)Stone Brewing Company is known for some pretty great beers. But did you know that their beards are also making waves? Well, Chili from Stone took home the title, with his 25-year old facial hair getting over 14% of the votes! We have no witty comment…this beard is pretty freaking amazing.

Texas not so down on craft brewers (Texas) – Craft brewers like Saint Arnold Brewing Company and Freetail Brewing Company gathered around watching what was going to happen in the Texas Senate. They were hoping (like the rest of the Texas Craft Brewers Guild) that the bills in question would pass, allowing them to sell for consumption in house, as well as to package for sale by outside retailers. Both passed 31-0. Take that oppression! There are still a few more up for vote, but this is a big step in the right direction for craft brewers.

New Craft Beer Releases to keep an eye on

With the return of Game of Thrones to HBO, we should also look out for Brewery Ommegang Iron Throne Blonde Ale, set to release this week. A blonde brewed in partnership with the show, this will surely help you get through the “winter”.
