The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – June 3, 2015

We can’t believe it’s June already…So much has happened this year and it doesn’t appear that things will be slowing down any time soon. But no worries – Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you absolutely don’t want to miss that.

BETTER LATE TO THE PARTY THAN NOT AT ALL (Washington, DC) – The US Senate, seldom late for a drink, has decided to endorse a celebration we’ve all been enjoying for years, American Craft Beer Week.Senators Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Susan Collins (R-Me.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) introduced a resolution, S. Res. 188, expressing the Senate’s appreciation of the goals of the week and commending the craft brewers of the United States. The Senate resolution passed by unanimous consent and crowds of legislators where later seen power-pounding beer to celebrate their official “pat on the back.” Nice work, everybody- but you’re not off the hook just yet. How about addressing something that could really benefit our industry like passing the Small BREW Act?

WILLIE WONKA REDUX (Denver, CO) – Breckenridge Brewery pulled a “Willie Wonka” recently and slipped 50 “Golden Tickets” into the hands of the region’s beer stores and drinking emporiums to use at special giveaway events leading up to the highly anticipated opening of their new brewery in June. Golden Ticket winners will be the first public visitors allowed behind the scenes of the new $36 million brewery in Littleton on a special day devoted just to them. Saturday, June 20th, is the day for lucky Golden Ticket holders to come to the brewery for the first official tours, the first public tapping in the brewery’s tasting room, gifts from the brewery, and beer-fueled bragging rights.

STEAMED! (San Francisco, CA) – Anchor Brewing has announced a new multi-platform initiative that highlights their brewery, its rich history and legacy. Their “Drink Steam” campaign which kicks off in San Francisco will utilize print, digital and out-of-home showcasing curated photography and storytelling to emphasize the brewery’s craftsmanship and culture.   The initiative launches as the brewery and its fans celebrate the 50th anniversary of what they refer to as the “American Craft Brewing Revolution,” that commemorates Fritz Maytag who purchased Anchor Brewing Company in 1965 and changed things forever. To further celebrate this milestone, starting in May, Anchor Steam Beer will boast new packaging depicting a hand-illustrated label by long-time Anchor artist Jim Stitt.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – June 3, 2015WHAT WE’VE BEEN DRINKING LATELY (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all the breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and helps to give us a better feel for what’s happening out there. Last night we ended our day celebrating with something we just received from the Breckenridge crew. Breckenridge Agave Wheat is a refreshing 4.2% ABV American Unfiltered Wheat Ale that’s brewed with Agave – and it’s a new summer favorite for us.
