The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – June 18, 2014

Hey it’s Wednesday and that means it’s Rumor Mill Time….The international community reeled as word leaked out that American Craft Beer LLC was going global! We’ll be bringing you everything we know so far on our provocative international initiative. Plus we’ve a roundup of the latest craft news and gossip and an all-important update on what we’re drinking this week.

We don’t sleep so you can….THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – June 18, 2014These Guys Are A Mess and We Still Can’t Get Enough of Them (Ellon, Aberdeenshire, UK) – Last year, BrewDog’sJames Watt and Martin Dickie traveled across America visiting different American beer towns and creating their own locally inspired drafts. And in spite of the damage they caused, immigration has for some reason allowed these insane Scotsmen to return for another season – on June 25, Brew Dogs Season 2 premieres on the Esquire Network.

Across The Great Divide (Denver, CO) – As part of their Phase 1 expansion plan, the Great Divide Brewing Company will be adding the Great Divide Barrel Bar – a cozy, 40-50 seat Tap Room on the corner of 35th Street and Brighton Boulevard, which will give the brewery’s fans unparalleled access to some of their rarest beers, including many of their previously hard-to-find, barrel-aged vintages.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – June 18, 2014What We’re Drinking This Week (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all of the American craft breweries who have shared their wares with us in the past and who have shipped us beer from time to time. It’s great to be able to sample the brews that we write about and it helps us have a better feel for what’s happening out there. Maryland’s Flying Dog Brewery is always keeping us plugged into what they’re doing and last week, they sent their newest Brewhouse Rarities release and we hit it right away. A homage to all of the south-of-the border classics we’ve enjoyed “down Mexico way,” Flying Dog’s Agave Cerveza is a total Cancun flashback and the perfect beach beer. They even add lime peel to the post-fermentation process so you don’t have to!

County Fair’s Beer Pavilion Gets Smoked While Pot Pavilion Doubles in Size (Denver, CO) – There’s been much talk about the kind of impact that Colorado’s legalization of marijuana might have on its craft beer industry and so far, the jury’s out. But Denver’s Westword is reporting one ominous development at a big event this summer -“The Denver County Fair has canceled its planned Beer Pavilion in favor of a super-sized Pot Pavilion.”

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – June 18, 2014American Craft Beer Goes Global (Washington, DC) – When we first launched American Craft Beer some two and a half years ago, our emphasis was (and still is today) to cover the American craft beer scene and its gonzo spirit in a way that had never been done before and we can’t thank you all enough for becoming part of our army of “dangerous hopheads.” What we didn’t expect was to attract an international following (London is amazingly a top 5 market for us!), a fact that still blows our collective minds. So in an effort to better address our growing international following – as well as to keep all of you in the states plugged into what’s happening with craft beer abroad – we’re taking on new writers based around the world. You might have already read Monday’s THE STATE OF CRAFT BEER IN JAPAN by our new Japan Correspondent, Post MD. And soon, you’ll have access to the musings of Sophie Atherton, one of the UK’s most popular craft beer voices (and also an accomplished beer sommelier) who will be joining us regularly as our new UK Correspondent. In upcoming months, you’ll be seeing more additions to our global roster of craft beer writers – so fasten your seat belts everybody -ACB’s Going Global.
