The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – February 27, 2013

Hey it’s Wednesday and it’s Rumor Mill Time…..It’s not all good news this week and we’ll be dishing out the good (and rest assured, there’s a lot of good news) as well as the bad (you need to be up on that too)…because that’s just what we do here. We also have a hot new release that you’ve got to get your hands on!

So fasten your seatbelts everybody….THIS WEEK’S RUMOR MILL IS ON!

And So It Begins? (Cape Girardeau, MO) – We’re not saying this has to happen – only that we’re surprised we haven’t seen more of this kind of thing. The Southeast Missourian is reporting that Cape Girardeau-based Buckner Brewing Company closed up shop in January and that the company is in the process of liquidating its assets. American Craft Beer has speculated about the possibility of a craft beer bubble in the past, and we are hoping that this is not the beginning of something.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – February 27, 2013Full Tilt Goes Wild (Baltimore, MD) – If you’re a regular reader of ours, you know that we’re both big fans as well as drinking buddies with the guys at Baltimore-based Full Tilt Brewing. We’ve known them for years and are excited about what they’re doing. So we were psyched to learn that they’d recently locked down a deal with the Buffalo Wild Wings chain and that their “Baltimore Pale Ale” will be served at all its Maryland restaurants, starting in June.

And Not To Be A Buzzkill (El Cajon, CA) – The El Cajon Brewing Company is struggling through bankruptcy despite receiving $600,000 from the state and city of El Cajon to open its doors, according to ABC 10 News. The reporter went on to explain that the owner is on the hook to pay back most of it and if he doesn’t, he could be closed and his equipment liquidated. For now, the El Cajon Brewing Company remains open – and hopes to for as long as possible.

The Hits Keep On Coming (Boston, MA)The Boston Beer Company announced its fourth-quarter and full-year results this week, and things were less than stellar. When looking purely at depletions and shipments (16% and 9% respectively) Sam Adams’ earnings for the fourth quarter of , The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill – February 27, 20132012 were off significantly. The market reaction was brutal and unforgiving. Share price dropped from an all-time high of $162.31 on Wednesday afternoon to $149.93 at the end of the trading day on Thursday, a 7.62% drop.

Necessary Feel Good Story (Dallas, TX) – Hey we’re even bumming ourselves out …so let’s move on to some great news for the Dallas and Fort Worth area. Andrews Distributing Company has just announced a new partnership with Pedernales Brewing Company, a company known for their classic and German style beers. Today, Pedernales Brewing Company produces 400 barrels a day (about 20,000 cases a month) in its 8,500-square-foot Fredericksburg, Texas plant, and Andrews will be bringing their brand to the DFW market.
