Great Brewing Disasters Remembered (London, England) – As part of our ongoing effort to remind you that drinking and driving are but one of the dangers associated with beer, we’d like to call your attention to the London Beer Flood of 1814. On October 16th of that year, a vat containing 135,000 imperial gallons of beer at the Meux and Company Brewery ruptured, sending a wall of beer into the city’s streets, destroying two homes and killing seven people – some who drowned in beer-flooded basement apartments. Yikes!

Exploding Beer Tank Leads to Lawsuit (Dallas, TX) – Although hardly on the scale of the London Beer Flood of 1814, two North Texas residents are claiming to have been injured when a fermentation tank exploded during a brewery tour they were taking at Franconia Brewing Co. in 2012. The Houston Chronicle is reporting that the couple is suing the business for up to $1 million.

Mission Brewery Does The Right Thing! (San Diego, CA) – Mission Brewery has just promoted Head Brewer John Egan, who came to the brewery in 2010 after a 9-year stint at Stone, toa new role of Operations Manager/Head Brewer. In addition to running the brew house and overseeing all brewing and packaging, John will now manage all the brewery’s employees and oversee all operations at Mission.

Chicagoland Beer Summit Coming (Chicago, IL) – The Chicago suburbs are home to a growing number of popular craft beer breweries, bars, and bottle shops, and will soon add a groundbreaking event to its mix. Ale to the Burbs, an alliance of suburban craft beer writers and event coordinators, will be hosting the 1st Annual Illinois Suburban Brewers Summit on Saturday, March 8th at Nevin’s Brewing Company in Plainfield, IL, and it sounds like a good time. The goal of the summit is to give suburban breweries an opportunity to come together and discuss the state of the market and to collaborate to increase the recognition of Chicago’s suburban craft beer scene. Approximately 30 breweries will partake in a moderated panel for an open forum – and there will also be a public beer tasting with beer being poured by attending breweries.
