The American Craft Beer Rumor Mill

We can’t believe it’s already September …So much has happened this year and it doesn’t appear that things will be slowing down any time soon. But no worries – Rumor Mill is always on the case, keeping you plugged in to all the craft beer news that matters. Plus we’ve an all-important update on what we’ve been drinking lately and you absolutely don’t want to miss that.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor MillThe Beast Is Back (Washington, DC) – One of our favorite craft beer events returns to the nation’s capital this weekend and if you’ve never attended Snallygaster – it’s time to rethink how you’re living your life. Unlike so many craft beer festivals that offer a roster of familiar standards along with the occasional rarity, Snallygaster does just the opposite. All the beer at Saturday’s (9/5) beerganza weekend’s event has been curated by craft beer wunderkind Greg Engert, the Beer Director and Managing Partner for the Neighborhood Restaurant Group. For this year Greg has assembled some 300+ beers from all around the world – and they’re the kinds of offerings that you only see at the most acclaimed craft beer outings like the Firestone Walker Invitational. We don’t think there’s a better non-Brewers Association event on the East Coast – and if you’re missing this, it better be because you’re in rehab.

A Rocky Mountain High (Colorado) – With the GABF retuning to Denver (Sept 24th-26th) Colorado will once again be hosting the world’s craft beer community and showcasing the state’s own billion dollar business at the same time. As we’ve reported before, Colorado’s craft beer biz has an estimated $1.15-billion impact on a state that’s already home to more than 300 breweries.

Hoppy Birthday! (Englewood, NJ) – A New Jersey women who recently turned 110-years-old reflected on the art aging gracefully. Fenton told ABC in 2005 that she drank three beers and a whiskey every single day for over 70 years – so there’s that.

, The American Craft Beer Rumor MillWorld Domination (China) – Already the largest beer market by volume globally, China is expected to become the largest beer market in the world by sales too. According to a new report, Assessment of China’s Beer Market 2014-2017, China is poised to surpass the United States in overall sales by 2017.

What We’ve Been Drinking Lately (Washington, DC) – We’d like to thank all the breweries who ship us beer from time to time. It’s always great to sample the brews that we write about and helps to give us a better feel for what’s happening out there. And last night we hit up a great early-fall seasonal that Starr Hill is returning to the marketplace.First introduced in 2011, Starr Hill Boxcarr Pumpkin Porter is a lightly-spiced 4.7% ABV English-style Brown Porter with pumpkin added to the mash.
