The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – August 31, 2015

We blame the industry for this… It used to be that when we wrapped up our Weekend Picks on Friday, we could coast through the weekend. There was little need to check in for updates – things were pretty much done. But clearly all that’s changed.

, The American Craft Beer Quick Hits – August 31, 2015So here’s some of what’s happened in the world of craft beer while you were off enjoying yourselves.

“Beer O’ Clock” Gets Oxford Cred (New York, NY) – Beer o’clock, a hipster phrase, that ceased being even remotely cool back in 2002, has officially been added to the Oxford Dictionary, further ensuring its pop-cultural demise… Brain Farts also made it in.

Pilsners Ascendant (Chicago, IL) – According to IRI, a Chicago-based marketing firm, the Pilsner is returning to prominence among craft beer consumers.  Craft beer Pilsners are showing the largest year-over-year growth among the industry’s top 20 styles – up an amazing 97 percent. This style which for the longest time was championed primarily by Victory, resurged with the debut and immediate success of Firestone Walker’s Pivo Hoppy Pils in 2013.

For many of us, those stories co-exist in a lifetime.”

Move Over Kingfisher Craft Beer Has Arrived (India) – Looks like craft beer is finally making its presence known in India, a country with millions of beer drinkers. NewsAsia is reporting that in spite of “rigid state liquor laws, licensing procedures and a

The Craft Beer Distribution Dance Continues (USA) – Everyone’s going everywhere and expanding into different markets- and here’s the latest on that. Jamie Floyd is an ex-New Yorker, so the announcement Ninkasi Brewing will be working with Sheehan Family Companies – and beginning full-time distribution to New York in late September, is hardly a total surprise. And Oskar Blues recently began distributing their year-rounds in Arkansas and West Virginia – so there’s that.
