Hey it’s Halloween weekend. And American Craft Beer gets deadly serious about this holiday with frightening places to visit, the best horror movies to watch and, of course, the right Halloween beers.

Horrifying Halloween Happenings

With Halloween, October 31st, falling on a Monday this year, most of this season’s celebrations are starting this weekend…And here are some of our favorite frightening ‘haunts’ around the country to experience Halloween at its best…

The Graveyards of New Orleans (Louisiana) – With its southern gothic vibe and voodoo backwoods, there are few cities more truly haunted than New Orleans. And its graveyards are not for the light-hearted.

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum (Weston, WV) – Having first opened its doors to the mad and unfortunate in 1864, this sprawling West Virginia asylum, which at its peak housed more than 2400 inmates (many who died within its walls), closed in 1994. Home to countless reports of paranormal activity, Halloween ghost tours are now available for those fearless enough to take this decrepit compound on.

Salem Haunted Happenings (Salem, MA) – Talk about embracing your past…Salem on Halloween is a witch fest that never disappoints!

The Greenwich Village Halloween Parade (New York, NY) – There’s no need to explain this pick…right?

Halloween San Francisco (Bay Area, CA) – Same goes here.

Not surprisingly there’s a full spectrum of Halloween-ready movie offerings at your local Cineplex including the latest Michael Myers slasher opus.

But while Halloween Kills has disappointed critics, Zach Cregger’s genre debut Barbarian, effectively melds modern fears with old-school horror directives and delivers what many are calling this season’s most frightening movie.

TV Time & Streaming

The AMC network celebrates every Halloween season with Fearfest, a non-stop horror marathon that runs frightening classics through October 31st. And Netflix is still streaming The Haunting of Hill House, an increasingly horrifying and ultimately effective remake of the original 1959 ghost classic by Shirley Jackson.

Robert Eggers’ The Witch is a slow-burn horror classic that you can stream on HBO Max. And if you’ve never seen the original Swedish vampire film, Let the Right One In, you need to, and it’s available this week on Amazon Prime.

THE ACB HALLOWEEEN WEEKEND BEER PICK

A beer’s name is an intrinsic part of any Halloween beer, and AleSmith Brewing’s fall seasonal is not just frighteningly named…it’s frighteningly delicious. Blood red and abundantly hopped to balance out its crimson malt backbone, AleSmith Evil Dead Red is a fiendishly smooth Red Ale that’s only brewed only for the haunting season.
