Surly’s 2018 lineup not the usual suspects

With 2017 now in the rear-view mirror, American breweries are positioning themselves in an increasingly competitive environment, with new additions to their portfolios. And here’s just some of what Minneapolis’ Surly Brewing has planned for 2018.

In addition to their already hefty eight beer year-round portfolio which includes popular flagships like Furious IPA and Xtra-Citra Pale Ale, Surly will be introducing two newbies…. Hop Shifter a new ‘gluten-reduced’ IPA will be introduced in February and +1 Golden Ale in April.Surly, Surly Brewing’s 2018 Craft Beer Lineup

They’ll also be offering four quarterly variety packs primarily built around two of their most popular IPA’s (Furious and Xtra-Citra) and Hell Lager with a wildcard added each time around that might be something brand new!

Surly has five timely seasonals scheduled for 2018.

Rising North Pale Ale set for the spring with #merica Lager to follow in the summer months. Surly will return Wet, their fresh hop IPA, along with a draft-only Oktoberfest Ale in October. And they’ll wrap up the year with the winter release of Abrasive Double IPA.

This year’s limited release schedule is equally bold including two stouts (Darkness and a Barrel-Aged version) a Belgian-Style Saison, a Barleywine, a dark Sour and an Anniversary offering!

Surly will also be introducing a new experimental series in 2018 that sounds intriguing. Surly’s ‘Innovation Series’ will allow them to showcase many or their more adventurous monthly in the popular 16 oz. 4-pack format.

Surly’s Bill Manley

And maybe for us the most exciting addition to Surly’s 2018 lineup is the hiring of Bill Manley, who we worked with for many years at Sierra Nevada, as the brewery’s new Director of Brand Development.

“I’m excited to join the Surly team. The brewery has a great attitude—a swagger, really—and strong brand,” said Manley “And they promised me I’d on longer have to field calls from sketchy organizations like American Craft Beer.”
